Methods: The existing literature was reviewed using Medline, focusing the key words bipolar disorder, children, adolescents and antipsychotics. Studies using randomized controlled designs were prioritized for making treatment recommendations.

We examine the prevalence, disability and needs for care of a heterogeneous group of young people with adolescent onset psychosis as seen by mainstream mental health services. Methods: Cases were identified from multiple sources, OPCRIT retrospective examination of case notes identified 101 subjects. Opt-out design for cross-sectional interview of 53 subjects, their carers and keyworkers using outcome measures and a developmentally appropriate version of the Cardinal Needs Schedule.
